Year 5 & 6 West Wittering
On Tuesday, Year 5 & 6 visited West Wittering to learn more about coasts. We saw deposition and erosion in action.
We played a game to learn about long shore drift.
We also built lines of sandcastles to track the tides to see how they move.
One activity we carried out was beach art - we had to use natural resources we found around us.

Year 5 Coasts
Coastline
In preparation for our trip next week, we have been finding out about weathering and erosion. We conducted a range of investigations to explore how regions could be damaged. Our investigations covered physical weathering (when water freezes and expands in cracks), biological weathering (when tree roots damage the pavements), chemical weathering (acidic rain) and erosion (when wind and water damage the landscape.
We also explored how coastlines are formed. Using clay, sand and water, we constructed our own coastline which includes headlands, stacks, stumps and bays.
It was incredibly exciting putting the water in and seeing how it moved around the different sections of our coast.
Ask us more about it!
