Performance Poetry

We've been looking at the work of different poets and have been discussing our preferences. We learnt that poems are designed to be performed, rather than read.

We looked at a range of performances from poets such as Michael Rosen, Roger McGough and Benjamin Zephaniah. We then devised a checklist which makes a good performance:

- different volumes of voice
- change in pace
- sound effects
-  lively expression
- a clear voice
- lots of body language and movement

We then practised and performed our poems in front of a P Factor audience! Our four judges (Louis, Mel, Cheryl and Simon) then gave us feedback on our performances.

We are published authors!

Year 6 became published authors when they made their first book sales at the Christmas fair! After having been inspired by Paul Geraghty's visit, Year 6 worked incredibly hard to write and illustrate their own children's books. 

Years 5 and 6 have raised an incredible £45 so far and the children will soon be deciding how that should be spent! If you would like to buy one (or more!) of our illustrated books for 50p, just make an order with Miss Halton. Happy reading! 

Welly Walk

Year Six joined the rest of Kings Copse for our sponsored Welly Walk. Our walk worked towards Farm Africa's challenge to walk 16,000 miles all the way around Africa.

The money you raise will be helping farmers in Africa grow more food and provide for their families. Farm Africa works directly with rural communities, helping them produce more food by farming more effectively, so they can build a future free from hunger.

 It was a beautiful afternoon walking for a great cause. Be sure to bring your sponsorship forms back into school! 

Gingerbread man

Following on with our great story telling skills we have looked at the story of the run away Gingerbread man. Once again the class showed skills in listening to a new story, remembering the characters and start, middle and end of the story.
It's been lovely to see how the confidence of all the children has grown in whole class story telling.
Of course you can't tell this story with out having gingerbread biscuits, so over the week all the children have had chance to ice and decorate a biscuit.

Year 4 and the Wellie Walk

Year 4 took part in the wonderful 'Wellie Walk' on Wednesday to raise money for Farm Africa: Give Hunger the Boot.

It was a little muddy in places........our wellies prove it! But nobody slipped over!

There were many different styles of welly on show. We had a bit of a fashion parade of them at the end of the walk.

We had a great time yesterday afternoon walking through Manor Farm.

 

The children thoroughly enjoyed climbing into their wellies and squelching through plenty of mud!

 

 

 

 

The weather was spectacular and, thankfully, nobody fell in!

 

 

Welly Walk

Year One had great fun taking part in today's welly walk, enjoying raising money for African farmers.  There was lots of excitement as we set off and came to the first of many muddy puddles! 

Lots of fun was had squelching through mud, kicking leaves and stomping through puddles.  

Year One showed excellent orienteering skills keeping their eyes peeled for the pieces of ribbon marking the route and making sure key stage two weren't taking us the wrong way! We arrived back at school with rosy cheeks and nearly as much energy as when we set off!
