Get talking to improve learning

Research has shown there is a strong link between the number of words in a child's vocabulary at 5 and the number of GCSEs they get at 16. Therefore one of the best ways to help your child learn and achieve is to talk with them. I hope the photos on this site will start some conversations in your home. I will also be setting optional discussion home learning activities from time to time such as the one linked to the Blue and Yellow video below. Try to use these as a focus for discussion. Let us know what you have been talking about by using the comment box so we can share these ideas in class.

  1. Talking with your child is SO important. It's also important to listen, to give them time to respond and to help them play with their ideas. How often have you come up with a better idea given a bit of time to reflect...? On a related theme, Winston Churchill said that "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen." Let's try to be courageous this week (and every week...!)
