Read for RNIB Day

Today the children came to school as book characters for a sponsored read. There were many costumes- Rainbow fairies, princesses, pirates, cats even Robin Hood, Ben 10, Merida (from the film Brave) and the Hulk showed up!

The day's work related to one of Mrs Monks's favourite children's story- Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.

After reading the story we decided we would taste Winnie the Pooh's favourite treat- honey!

The children had a taste of supermarket honey and then compared it to Mrs Whieldon's home-made honey from her farm.

Mrs Wheildon then talked to the children about honey and the honey bee and the children produced informative posters about how honey is made.

We decorated our classroom door with our informative posters about honey.

Mrs Keene talked to the children about visual impairment and using Braille. The children looked at books that were brailled and talked about how the RNIB helps blind people to access reading books.

In the afternoon, we made clay honey pots. We had to make clay sausages and coil them. We wrote 'hunny' on the pots- just like Winnie the Pooh.

At the end of our day we had some reading time. Some of the children were sponsored to take part in a sponsored read to raise money for RNIB.
Some of the children's adults came into class and shared a book.

What a fun day!
