Such great news. The blue tit eggs hatched over the weekend. We are not sure if all the birds hatched and survived. I spent a lot of time viewing the footage this evening. I spotted at least 9 hungry little mouths to feed. There were 10 eggs so it may be that there are 10 chicks but one was out of shot.
Mum and Dad were very active this evening with both flying in and out of the bird box to get food. The chicks were very hungry, waiting with their mouths open to be fed.
The light at about 6pm seems just about right to get the footage in clear colour. At that time I could really see the colours of our blue tit family. I think at other times the light level is lower so the feed appears to be in black and white.

ReplyDeleteWonderful news, Mrs Goto! At least 9 bouncing baby birds. I can count at least 4 hungry mouths so your eyesight must be better than mine. What should we call our new chicks? Does anyone have any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see them arrive. All my girls were thrilled when we looked and finally we saw lots of little mouths, wide open, rather than the mass of eggs!!! So nice to be able to see, Lydia thinks its amazing that they are in the school grounds.
ReplyDeleteVery exciting! We have blue tits in our bird box at home and we are listening out for the sound of hungry babies. We have seen how busy the blue tits have been preparing for their new arrivals... Not long now. Great to see inside your box.

I could see some little birde mouths then, I wasnt sure before but it is really good news? how about some names then, i can't really think of any. Can anyone else thimnk of some names?

Unfortunately Mr Hayman I failed to get a picture with all the open mouths in. That will be my project over the next few weeks!

Thomas was so excited that the chicks had hatched. We have been checking the birdcam on a regular basis (when it lets us in!)
