Rice Challenge!

The Fairtrade group have really enjoyed being able to continue with our Rice Challenge this week.

For those new to Kings Copse Primary (and for those who may need reminding), we started the JTS Rice Challenge last year.

 The challenge…

90kg of rice = 1 year of education

JTS (reg. charity) has challenged schools to sell
90kg of rice – the amount of rice sold that would enable a Malawian farmer to pay for a years basic secondary education for one child.

As of today we have sold an incredible 84 bags which means we only have 6 left to sell!

We will be outside the main entrance after school on Friday selling the last few bags so if you haven’t got yours yet remember to bring your £3 and grab yourself a bag whilst stocks last! It is for a great cause and is very tasty too!

Finally a big thank you to everyone who has already bought a bag and have helped us to make a difference. Also thank you to all the children who have helped run the stall this week. They have shown great determination and enthusiasm (as well as some good selling skills!).

Show Your Spots!

Today has looked a little bit different at Kings Copse!  Instead of wearing normal school uniform, children and staff have dressed up in spotty clothes to raise money for Children in Need.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part and made a donation. Together we raised a fantastic total of £165.55!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

On Friday, Year Six hosted a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan cancer support. Thank you so much to everyone who donated so many delicious cakes - we had a fantastic morning eating them! The Year Six children spent the morning serving cakes and entertaining their younger brothers and sisters with different games and activities. Coffee mornings have so far raised over £138 million for Macmillan and we feel very proud of our contribution to this total.

Thank you to everyone who took part in our 'guess the baby' competition! The answers are:

1 - Mrs Glyn-Davies
2 - Mrs Callen
3 - Miss Piggin
4 - Mrs Whieldon
5 - Mrs Warland
6 - Mrs Ferguson
7 - Miss Halton
8 - Miss MacMaster
9 - Mrs Sampson
10 - Miss Wylde
11 - Mrs Stevens

After nearly all cakes were sold, we raised a staggering
£364.77

A massive thankyou to all those who donated. The money you helped raise at our Coffee Morning will go towards making sure no one has to face cancer alone.

Harvest Collection

Harvest Collection

Thank you for all your donations of tins and packets for our Harvest collection.  This year we have collected a staggering 195 items from the suggested list that was sent home a few weeks ago.

The children really enjoyed watching the line of food grow along the length of the corridor. Although we didn't make it all the way from Year 6 to the Oasis room, we did get over half-way, from Year 6 to nearly Year 2.

Arthur Cowburn, our attached reverend, delivered an inspiring assembly linking Harvest to the theme of Patience and was equally impressed with the children's efforts.  This week, some representatives from Hedge End Food Centre will be talking to the children about the people we have helped and taking the food away with them.
