Listen2Me Summer Concert

For the last time this year, we were treated to an afternoon of musical entertainment on Wednesday.
Mrs Staniforth's musicians kicked us off beautifully on their flutes and recorders.  They played some fantastic pieces and really showed off everything they have been learning.
This was followed by a wonderful concert performed by Year 2 and 4 children.  Year 4 played their ukuleles, while Year 2 played a range of tuned percussion instruments - the metallophone, chime bars, glockenspiel and xylophone.
The children all sang and played brilliantly.  Thank you once again to Mrs Watling for supporting our children to learn the instruments and perform so confidently.

Listen2Me Spring Concert

On Wednesday 3rd April, Years 2 and 4 treated us to another fantastic Listen2Me concert.  The performance started with Mrs Staniforth's musicians playing us some beautiful pieces.  This was followed by Years 3 and 4 showing off their skills on the descant and treble recorders following another term of hard work with Mrs Watling.
Thank you to all the parents for coming and well done to everyone involved, you were fantastic!

Fantastic Fire service morning!

In year 2 we learnt all about fire safety in the home and what to do if we think there is a fire.

 Firstly, what does a fireman wear to fight fires safely?

 The fireman checks the rooms in a house and then asks - is anyone here?

 The children wore their tunics and were ready to be firemen.

 What's it like inside a fire engine when it's responding to an emergency?

 They even had a go at using the hose!

Listen 2 Me Christmas Concert

On Wednesday the family and friends of children in Years 2 and 4 were treated to a fantastic concert to showcase all of the songs they have learnt to play on the recorder.






They also sang some songs which help them to remember the correct hand positions when they play the recorder.












The children played a wonderful range of pieces, some were familiar to us and others were new tunes for us to enjoy.

There were even some beautiful solo performances. 

The concert ended with a brilliant rendition of Jingle Bells, played jointly by Years 2 and 4, to get us all into the Christmas spirit.  

We all left with huge smiles on our faces.


Well done to both year groups, you were all fabulous!  A huge thank you to Mrs Watling and all of the other adults involved for their hard work in helping the children to shine.

Planetarium visit

On Thursday the children in Years 1, 2, 5 and 6 were lucky enough to immerse themselves in the world of Space inside the Planetarium.

Mario told the children about how the Planetarium worked and they excitedly climbed in.

Once inside they were treated to an adventure in space looking at the International Space station as well as where to find the planets in the sky.  We were all surprised that you could see the planet Jupiter from Earth.

They then saw various films about Space and planets.  After that the children were able to hold the oldest object they would ever hold in their lives....a  4.3 million year old piece of Iron meteorite.

SCIENCE WEEK

Seasonal Science work in year 2

We had a great time working out how shadows changed when we moved the light source around.  Most of the children noticed that the shadow was stronger in colour and wider when the light source was close, and lighter and thinner when far away.  We will be coming back to this later in the year to make links to the Summer sun and the Winter sun differences.

Don't forget this weekend(Sunday  night) is a SuperMoon which will be the best one for some time...since 1948 and it won't happen as close again until 2034.

Acid in liquids test

The children investigated which liquids were the most acid.  We used filter paper soaked in red cabbage which once dried will indicate red/pink for acid.

We then made links to the acid in drinks which may damage our teeth and how it's best to drink water after sweets, fruit and sugary drinks.

Afterwards we put dirty pennies into different liquids to find the best for cleaning.  Some came out very shiny and one wasn't clean at all.  See if your child can remember which liquid was the best.
