Top Secret Homework

Well done, Year 4. We were extremely impressed with the effort and creativity shown in your homework last half term. Here is just a small selection of the fantastic homework that was sent in by the children.

We had a vast array of super forensic kits. Can you work out what all of the items would be used for?

There were lots of secret messages to work out. This one was in Morse Code...

The class have also been busy designing spy gadgets such as spy goggles and magnet gloves...

Some people also practised their best spy moves....

There was a great selection of Wanted posters for criminals and to advertise for super spies....

We  saw lots of very clever ransom messages using words from newspapers and magazines.....

Lots of people were very busy measuring evidence such as hand prints and foot prints too...

We also had maginifcient maps of top secret spy locations such as Bletchley Park and Sherlock Holmes' house in Baker St....

Some people created a super criminal file with the details of evil villains that needed to be captured...

We found out lots about unsolved mysteries such as The Loch Ness Monster...

We were very impressed by the range of beautiful paintings that used fingerprints too!

History of Cinema

Zoetrope

 

This week we learnt about the earliest form of moving imagery - The Zoetrope.

 

Invented in 1834 by Edward Muybridge, it was the first mechanic device that displayed images so that they appeared to move.

 

 

A sequence of 12 still images were shown in quick succession so that the object appeared to move as it would in real life.

Discovering Diwali

We have been finding out about Diwali and the reasons why Hindu's celebrate their 'Festival of Light' each year.

We found out that the story was based upon the story of Rama and Sita. We learnt the story and acted out the tale in role....

We also re-enforced our measuring skills by working with Mrs Pellett. She helped us to read the scales and weigh accurately so we could make Coconut Burti (a sweet that Hindus make and eat on Diwali). 

We also made clay diva lamps. After our divas had dried, we painted them in bright colours to celebrate Diwali being the festival of light and colour.

We also showed off our best Bollywood dance moves as part of our celebration!

Finally, we used the concept of Good and Evil to create a collage of our thoughts. We thought of images that we associated with good and evil and used colours to highlight the differences.

Some of the other activities we took part in included... designing Rangoli patterns, writing poems about good and evil, drawing cartoon storyboards of the Rama and Sita story and lots more. We had a fantastic time finding out about Diwali!

Music in Year 1

 

We listened to Mercury from Holst's planets today.  The children made their own fast and slow music playing percussion instruments.

Out and about!

 

As part of our Literacy and Maths work we have been investigating the impact litter has on our local community. 

 

Today we headed out into the streets and noted down as much litter as possible.  It was surprising to find so much in the immediate vicinity of the school. 

 

 

 

In the upcoming weeks, we are going to create graphs and charts in Maths as well as letters and documentary style writing in Literacy.  Watch this space!

Secret symbols

As part of our programming work in ICT, we have been creating secret spy symbols using Logo.

To create our symbol, we created a simple procedure to make a shape (for example, a square). We then used the REPEAT command to draw many copies of our shape, rotating it each time. We also tried layering different shapes on top of each other to create different effects.

Some groups were very advanced at programming and even managed to program the computer to change the pen colour each time too! Have a look at some of the stunning symbols we have created...
