Matt Haig Madness
This morning, Key Stage 2 had the pleasure of joining Matt Haig
for a splendid hour of fun and frolics.
After the short walk to Wildern, we were treated to extracts from his book, funny Christmas stories and pictures straight out of the pages of his books. Matt shared with us some funny elf language - watch out for any cheeky elf speak at home! He even found time to dress Izzy S from Year 3 as an elf!
His latest book, Father Christmas and Me, is out in the shops and certainly got plenty of our children in the festive spirit. Matt even convinced us to sing a round of Jingle Bells. It is the story of Amelia and her adventures with the elves in the run up to Christmas. This is the third in the series and some of you may have read 'The Boy Called Christmas' or 'The Girl Who Saved Christmas'
We even got to watch a clip where the illustrator, Chris Mould, showed us how he begins his illustrations. Did you know that before a character is decided, hundreds of sketches are made?! In the video, we saw various characters in different positions and with different expressions before the final one was decided.
All the children had a fantastic time meeting Matt Haig and hearing about how he comes up with stories. It was great for the children who had books signed to get a one to one chat with him. Matt took the time to ask them all whether they were excited about Christmas and what they were asking Santa for - something they don't always get the chance to do.
Thank you to all who helped with the trip and to Wildern for hosting such a fantastic morning. Look out for our signed copies of books heading home tonight!
