Builders Blog update
It's been an exciting couple of weeks in school. Children have been fascinated to watch the continuing changing face of Kings Copse. Here are some photos that document what has been happening, along with an explanation of each. We are all becoming building experts!
1. This picture shows the drainage placed below the slab in preparation the new toilets
2. Reinforcement cages being built ready to place within the "thickenings" in the slab between pile caps. Cages are made from separate sections and tied together using steel wire.
3. Premade cages as above
4. All reinforcing and shuttering in place ready for the slab to be poured.
5. Concrete is pumped into the slab as children watch on. The concrete needs to be vibrated in between the reinforcing to ensure there are no air bubbles which would create weakness.
6. Slab completed, you can see the bolts ready to take the new steel columns
7. A 50T crane is being used to place the steel. 50t is the maximum lifting capacity of the crane not how much it weighs! A cranes lifting capacity gets lower the further it has to boom from its centre with its load. So it can only lift 50T when it is very close.
8. Steel erectors are now building the new frame. Here you can see the an eaves beam being connected to two columns.
The steels are starting to show us how the building will look on the inside too. It will be great to see how it has changed again over half term.
Stay posted for further pictures and updates!
