Our Day at Longdown Activity Farm!!

We had a wonderful day at the farm yesterday. Farmer Brian took us around the farm and we all became 'young farmers' for the day!

We learnt how to feed goats and young goats,  which are called kids, with special milk. We all got quite wet and sticky as the young goats were so hungry!

We collected chicken and duck eggs and learnt about how long the eggs take to hatch.

Then we fed the muddy pigs, and then held twelve day old chicks, they were so cute and fluffy!

After every activity we had to wash our hand with lots of soap.

A little donkey called 'Emily' made friends with us.

Then we had a very bumpy and exciting tractor ride around a field, it was so much fun!!!

Finally it was time for lunch, we were so pleased as we were very hungry.

Summer Fair Fun!

After weeks of preperation, our Summer Fair took place on a glorious sunny Saturday! Amongst the various stalls, there was a special treat this year - as part of the Young Enterprise Award, the Year 6s ran their own attractions. Their aim.... to raise the most money possible for the PTA!

The staff and parents were extremely impressed with the huge amount of effort that the children had put in into their stalls. Many had made lots of things at home and even spent their own money on resources!

We also had a vast array of fantastic stall ideas! Balloon popping, Loom bands, a cake stall, a lucky dip, Minecraft games, a Nerf shoot out and an England pick-a-player were some of the creative ideas that the children came up with. 

The Year 6s ran their stalls in a very professional manner and had a great time. I hope you enjoyed visiting their stalls too! But which stall has made the most profit? Find out in the next couple of days to find out our winners and their fantastic prize!

A Special Visitor in Year Five

On Friday, we had a very special visitor. Win was an evacuee during World War Two, and came in to talk about her experiences with us. We all thought about questions we would like to ask to find out more about her life as an evacuee, as then she very kindly shared her experiences with us. It was fascinating, and we would like to say a huge thank-you to Win for speaking with us.

Volcanic Eruptions

We have had some excellent homework submitted this week, which included a range of beautiful carnival masks.

 

One pupil made a super volcanic experiment and we created our own eruption today.

 

Made simply with Jelly, Bicarbonate of Soda and Vinegar, the children witnessed superb results.

 

 

After turning out a jelly mould, we filled a centre hole with Bicarbonate of Soda. This proved to be tricker than it looked and took several attempts!

 

 

 

 

Once the hole was filled, with a little over spill, Samantha prepared her vinegar and food colouring mixture.

 

 

 

This was injected into the side with magnificent results.

 

 

 

After a few injections, Mrs Warland couldn't resist the temptation to make the volcano fully erupt so poured some vinegar over the surface of the volvano.

 

 

 

We were left with a bubbling mess that dried into igneous rock formations!

Fantastic Homework!

We have been incredibly impressed by all the hard work and creativity which has been put into this half term's homework. As always, it is wonderful to see you all taking such pride and putting so much effort into your home learning. Well done to all those who received merits.

River Ober fun!

As part of our rivers topic, the Year Fives went on a very exciting visit to the River Ober. We looked at two different sites along the river, and made comparisons about what we found.

We measured the River Ober at different points to compare the width.

 We also measured the depth of the river, to see which parts were deepest.

We had a chance to explore the environment, to identify which plants and minibeasts we found in the different habitats.

We had lots of fun playing pooh sticks, to measure the flow of the river.

It was a lovely day, and we were very lucky with the weather! If you would like to visit this part of the Ober water, it's only a short walk from Whitefield Moor carpark, which is just past Rhinefield House (near Lyndhurst) - it's the perfect spot for a summer picnic and a paddle.
