The Great British Bag Test

The Great British Bag Test

Currently, in Year 5, we are investigating the impact of plastic waste on the environment.  New Government guidelines suggest that large stores and supermarkets will be introducing a 5p charge on all carrier bags by 2015.

Some of you will have already noticed an increasing number of stores charging for single use bags.

So...we've investigated!  Which bag do you think withstands the durability and waterproof test?

In for a swim...did it withstand the rain test?

The distance test...how far can you walk without it breaking?

Sunday stroll and doing well....

...but the cracks begin to appear!

Getting ready to catch the fall!

More holes...

Thank goodness it wasn't eggs!

The Sainsbury hole of doom! (As labelled by Year 5!)

Before the Year 5 mutilation!

Which store do you think provides the best single use bag?

Please comment below your prediction.  The stores we tested were:
Tesco
Sainsbury
BHS
M&S
B&Q
Mothercare
New Look
Boots

Some of our children compared value for money within the Sainsburys bag range.  They compared the free single use bag against the 10p plastic bag and the 50p sturdy bag.  Which do you think was best value for money?

We will reveal all next week!

  2. I am torn between the Mothercare and BHS bag and Lauren isn't giving anything away! I am pleased Year 5 are taking on a project that needs addressing.

  3. I think the M&S single use bag will be the strongest out of all the single use bags. From experience I would say the 50p sturdy bag is the best value for money - I'm still using several that are at least a couple of years old, so the cost per use is very small ( and Sainsburys replace them for free if they do wear out!)
