Black Dog - Levi Pinfold

When a huge black dog appears outside the Hope family home, each member of the household sees it and hides. Only Small, the youngest Hope, has the courage to face the black dog, who might not be as frightening as everyone else thinks.

As part of World Book Day a group of KS2 children explored the text 'Black Dog' by Levi Pinfold. The children discussed aspects of the text and looked carefully at the illustrations, which ranged from large colourful illustrations to small sketches.

Can you spot the black dog?

The children then made their own creative reading journals, sharing their thoughts and feelings (including questions) about the text.

Written in Braille
Other texts written by Levi Pinfold include 'Greenling', which shares many themes with 'Black Dog'. KS2 were fortunate enough to see this book before it was published earlier in the year, as part of the Hampshire Illustrated Book Award. Both texts are worth a read and are available in the library.
