Creative Writing - What could the opening be?

We've been creating some fantastic narrative openings in Creative Writing!

Using this picture as our stimulus, our task was to create an opening that hooked and interested the reader within the first few lines....


Here's a selection of some of the fantastic openings created by the class. Which devices have they used to hook the reader in and to gain their attention? Can you spot the descriptive phrases they've used? How could they improve their openings even further?
