Watercolour testing

We've been investigating Seascapes in our art sessions. Over the next few weeks, you'll see us create our own 'Seascape Threescape' using different techniques in paint. Our first painting will be using watercolours.

We used different seascapes from different artists to experiment with different tones of watercolour paint. Some of the colours were easy to mix whilst others required a lot more thought!

We also looked at the different hues and tried experimenting with different tonal washes - particularly when looking at the sky and the sea.

Have a look at some the shades that were created in the lesson - can you spot which tone they are trying to recreate from their picture?

Some people also discovered that because the paint is wet, you can create some interesting effects by blowing the watercolour before it dries. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks to see if you can spot this technique being used in some of our paintings.

  1. There are some great works-in-progress on show in that blog entry, Year 6. Don't forget, I need some great new pictures for our school gallery so if you think yours is particularly special, do add it to our gallery!
