The Kings Copse Boat Show!

We all know about the Southampton Boat Show! Well, Year 6 decided to have a little show of their own. We decided to use our scientific skills to investigate how to design a boat that can hold increasing amounts of weight. Which group would design a boat that could hold the most passengers (marbles) without sinking?
Here are some of our designs....

Congratulations to Aiden and Oscar who managed to get 28 passengers on to their boat before it sank! This was their winning design! Why was their boat so successful? Add your thoughts below!

  1. Super boats! I particularly loved the yellow one that had a sort of boat shaped compartment inside the boat.
Did Aiden and Oscar manage to space their people out evenly in their boat?

  4. On the second test me and Ellora tried so hard making the boat and we tried to make the sides taller so the water can't get in and in the in side we made it wider and better. It was so fun watching how many marbles can the boats can hold. On the first test we got 11 the second test we got 21.

  5. I think that their design held 28 marbles becaus eit had lots of area for upthrust to act on the bottom and they have leveled out the gravity and upthrust. They have also built up the sides so that they are quite high and so that no water could get in.!!!!
