Muscles!

Making Muscles!

In Science, we are learning about the skeleton and how we move.  Last week we found out the names of bones and enjoyed labelling body parts.  This week we found out about muscles.  To help us understand how they contract and relax, Mrs Warland showed us a model.

The colours are important.  Muscles work in pairs so, while one contracts, the other relaxes.  When we move our joint (shown on the model as a split pin) one set of elastic bands stretches while the other relaxes.  It was amazing to see it in action.  If you would like a demonstration, please come and ask!

  2. What a fascinating way to learn about muscles. I will think about this next time I am doing some exercise. I hope I can see some of the models nest time I am passing your classroom.
