We are Time Travellers!

As part of our time travelling topic, Year Six have started to investigate how the Earth has evolved over billions of years. We began by looking at our new history mural. It was fascinating to see how much things have changed in our recent history!

However, our corridor simply wasn't long enough to fit the entirety of Earth's history on it! We decided to create a timeline of our own.

We used loo roll to represent the timeline of Earth, from 5 million years ago to current day.

It was interesting to see events placed on the scale - it was a very big gap between the first life on Earth (3.5 billion years ago) and the dinosaurs (245 million years ago)!

Pre-modern humans only appeared 3.5 million years ago which, on our timeline, was only 3.1cm from the end! Even more amazingly, the first homo-sapiens were just 1mm away from present day.

Laying out events in history like this gave us a really clear understanding of just how long it has taken for the Earth to become what it is today.
