Floating Eggs!

How do you make an egg float?

It's a very tricky question to answer! After researching about the Dead Sea, we found out that you can float in it because of the high salt content.

We decided to conduct an investigation to find out if we could make an egg float in water just by using salt. We realised that by adding salt to the water, we created a salt SOLUTION. However, how much salt did we need?

We devised a fair test to conduct our experiment. We soon realised that the salt didn't dissolve in the water fully because it fell to the bottom of the pot. Most groups decided on a number of stirs to keep each test fair.

After each tea-spoon of salt, we observed closely to see if the egg had begun to float in the water.

Eventually, the egg rose to the surface! We repeated the test several times to ensure our results were accurate. However, we discovered that most groups had different results each time. Why do you think this happened?

What do you think might happen to the egg if we kept adding salt to the solution? Why do you think the salt solution made the egg float?
