Stories by significant authors

Year 5 have been investigating significant children's authors. The children have discussed which books they like to read and have interviewed other children in the school, to find out their preferences. Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson were popular in Key Stage 1 and J. K Rowling and Jeff Kinney were popular in Key Stage 2.

The children have been looking at the styles of the different authors and have thought about the different techniques they use.

We are presently writing our own stories- the children have chosen their favourite book and they are writing a sequel. Of course, using the style of the significant author. We have thought carefully about our openings so that we grab the readers attention. Some of the children started their stories using action, dialogue, a question, a statement or by using vivid description.

Our stories will be on display shortly so keep an eye out!

  1. Year 5, would it be possible to share some of your work with Year 4? We are also looking at narrative stories at the moment so some tips from some 'experts' would be a fantastic inspiration for them!
