The last of the butterflies emerged today. We will be releasing them tomorrow. Talk to your children and use the comment facility to let us know what their memories and observations of the butterflies are.
Lucy (s) has told me all the butterflies are yellow and that "the next day we go to school we will let them go to the wild because that's a nice thing to do"
Thomas was very excited to see the butterflies. He has really enjoyed seeing them go from Caterpillars to Butterflies and although he doesn't want to let them go is happy they will be free to fly around.
I think this has really been lovely for the children to see first hand the transformations. Taylor has been keen to show me the developments most mornings in school.
Today she was sad to see the butterflies go but she said she knew that it was what was needed to be kind to the butterflies!
When Millie was in year r they didn't have the chance to do this. So I think this is such a lovely experience Mrs Goto has organised for our children. It really is amazing how much the children will learn and remember from this. I'm always really pleased to hear they are growing something, or pond dipping or they are having some kind of wildlife / animal experience. :) Liam and Millie's mum.
It is always so nice to hear such positive comments from you all. If your children are inspired by things like pond dipping they should love the activities we will be doing at Hilliers next week!

Lydia enjoyed looking after them, and the colours of their wings and she really doesn't want them to fly and go away, as she loves them.
ReplyDeleteLiam is really looking forward to letting the butterflies into the wild tomorrow. :)

ReplyDeleteMy goodness what beautiful creatures. How long did they stay in the chrysalis?
ReplyDeleteThey were in their chrysalises for about 10 days.
