Another busy week

We've had a great first week back after the holiday and have introduced lots of new things to our day, including assembly.  The children loved being part of singing assembly on Tuesday and celebration assembly today.

We have learnt three new sounds this week - s   a   t
We have been saying each sound and doing the action.  We have also been thinking of words that begin with each sound.

In small group time this week we have been learning more about 2d shapes.  We used the shapes to make a picture and then described our picture.  We have been learning to use mathematical language like corners and sides to describe the shapes.

"That's the chimney.  That's a rectangle, it's short at the top and short at the bottom and long at the sides.  It has 4 corners".

"To do my igloo I used glass shapes, rectangles and triangles.....rectangles because it's got 4 sides.  These two are small and two are big".

"Two circles for ears, one circle for the face, one circle for the nose and one little rectangle for the eyes".

"Two (sides) are long and two are short.  It has 4 corners".

"Sometimes they build squares for cubes. A cube is a solid shape but it's not flat".

In number time we have been practising our counting.  We had to recognise the different numbers and count the correct number of sparkles into that section.  We have also been finding one more and one less than different numbers.

  1. It's lovely seeing everything they're getting up to at school and all the fun things they are doing! I love seeing the pictures!
