Roman Day

Back in Time

On Thursday we had an exciting visit from two Romans.
The first was a Roman civilian who told us all about life for the average Roman.  We studied artefacts and got to dress up.  She told us what it was like to be a Roman slave and punishments we would have to endure if we misbehaved!

After lunch, we met a Roman soldier.  He taught us all about life in the army and what to expect in basic training.  Again, we got to see artefacts and explore tools they used.

At the very end of the day, we experienced soldier training and marched around the playground.  We learnt that 'dextrum' meant right and 'sinistrum' meant left.  This is where we get the word dextrous and sinister from.  You weren't allowed to be left handed so it had a negative meaning.

  1. Wow, this all looks very exciting and interesting. Maybe I shouldn't admit that I'm left handed...

  2. Glad we do not have punishments like that at Kings Copse!
