Year 5 have been very lucky to have basketball coaches in school to help us to learn basketball. This week, we've been refining our skills by practising our shooting, dribbling and passing techniques. First, we did a warm up to ensure that all of our muscles were ready and that our bodies we're prepared. We then played a game to test our reaction skills. We needed to clap and then catch the ball if it was thrown to us. If we clapped by mistake, or we dropped the ball, then we were out.
We then tried to dribble our ball between the different cones....
We needed to dribble low and tight between the blue cones.....
Every time we reached a yellow cone, we needed to change the hand that we were controlling the ball in....
We also needed to test our spatial awareness by dribbling from red to white to red and so on....
There was also the opportunity to practise our shooting skills by using the nets.
In our next sessions, we will link our techniques together and use them within a game.
It looks like your basketball skills are developing brilliantly Year Five!
