Electric moves!

In Science this term we have been learning about electricity and circuits.

First of all we learnt about safety when using electrical equipment and the children designed posters to encourage safety around the home.

Can you remember the important safety messages?

We then explored electrical circuits. The children were given batteries, wires, bulbs and buzzers and were challenged to make a working circuit. The children remembered that the circuit needs to be complete for the electricity to be able to travel all the way around the circuit and needs to have certain components. The children also explored what happened when you increased the number of batteries, wires or bulbs.

Can you remember what happened? Can you explain why?

We have also been exploring circuits in our PE lessons. The children worked in groups to pass simple moves along the line, just as electricity flows along the wires. They had to work very hard in their groups to pick actions that were simple to copy but effective. The children also had to think very carefully about copying each other's moves as accurately as they could as well as getting the timings right.

Now the children have had a chance to practise their moves, we are going to spend the next few weeks refining ideas and turning our actions into performances.
