Today we played outside lots and lots. We found animal tracks in the snow and thought about what might have left them behind. One of the children thought it may have been ostriches! We talked about the types of animals that live in our local area. Later we were talking about what was being put on the roads. We told the children the grit they had seen had salt in it. To explore why they might put this down we added salt to a bucket of snow. We had another bucket with no salt in it. The children observed that the bucket with the salt in went a lot more watery and had melted more. We concluded that salt makes snow melt more quickly.
Taylor told me all about adding salt to the snow and how it melted quickly. It sounds like the children have all been enjoying the weather conditions & learning alot to.

Lucy really engaged with the snow/salt experiment. We talked at home about the tray of snow without the salt being the 'experiment control'. Lucy is looking forward to 'doing more science experiments'. This has inspired us to look at a volcano experiment this weekend at home.

It was lovely to see you all experimenting with the snow last week. It was really interesting to see how the salt affected the snow but can you think of a way to make the snow last longer?
