For one of our sessions we watched a short film about a boy who found a ring that allows him to turn invisible. At first he thinks of all the good things he can do with his new power such as stopping robbers. However, he then starts to think about some other things he could do. He starts using the ring to play tricks on his friends and avoid getting caught when he has done something wrong!
After watching the film we had a discussion about the themes and questions it raised.
The children suggested some big ideas that the film brought up. |
The class voted for the question they would most like to discuss. We changed the wording a little to make it a bit more philosophical. |
Next we shared any thoughts we had on the big question. |
We have learnt to put our hand out if we have something we want to share. The speaker can then choose who they would like to hear from next. |
It has really improved our listening skills and we have started to use phrases such as 'Linking on from what... said ...' and 'I agree/disagree with... because...' |
Finally everyone gets a chance to have a final say and share last thoughts. |
Some children came up with thoughts later in the day and so recorded them on our thinking wall. |
It was a really interesting and thought provoking discussion.
So what do you think? We would love to hear more thoughts on our question!
Is it okay to play tricks on people?
Our opinion is that you can play tricks as long as it is fun for everyone. It is also safe if you know that the person you are playing a trick on, likes tricks.
