We are Philosophers

On Friday, we read a story in which a young otter was forced to face his fears and learn to swim (albeit not by choice!). It reminded us of the challenges we had overcome and, for some of us, fears we had faced on Brownsea Island recently!

First we shared our initial thoughts and ideas on the topic. Among other things, we decided that the book was about family, fears and challenges.

In small groups, we came up with some 'big picture' questions inspired by our initial thoughts. Next, we shared them with the class through making links with other questions.

After considering the questions put forward, we voted on which question we would like to discuss.

The two questions which we decided we would like to discuss were 'Should you ever do something you don't want to do?' and 'Is it good to face your fears?'

We broke into two smaller groups to have our discussions and listened carefully about what people had to say.

We had some really interesting debates and discussions - maybe you could pose some of these questions to your friends and family and see what they have to say!
