Before you start reading, grab a pencil and paper...
Write any 3 digit number on the paper in front of you.
673
Now, reverse the digits so you have two numbers, and subtract the smallest from the largest.
673 - 376 = 297
Now reverse the digits again, and add the two numbers together.

We have been exploring this problem today in maths. We tested different numbers until we found a pattern. It was fascinating!
We found some examples where the rule doesn't apply too!
After testing 3 digit numbers, we tried testing different numbers to see whether the same rule would apply.
Why don't you have a go and see what you notice?
We even noticed patterns in our answers.
This mathematician enjoyed it so much, he went out at lunch to find all the answers that didn't fit the rule.
Your answer is...
1089
Not 1089? Then you've found an exception to the rule. Try testing some more to see what you notice!
Oh boy! I had to use a calculator!
